Who Do You Think You Are?

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov 23:7).”

We have all heard the slogan – “You are what you eat,” but Biblically we are reminded that “we are what we think.” Whatever we think about and meditate on influences are actions and ultimately who we become. We are reminded that the battlefield is really in our minds – or for our minds (Eph 6:10-20, 2 Cor 10:3-6, and Rom 12:1-2). Therefore we need to be careful what we allow to ruminate in our minds. This is why the Bible constantly focuses on meditating on the Word (Psalm 119), setting our minds on things above (Col 3:1-3) and focusing on good things (Phil 4:8).

Here are a few verses stating who you are as a Christian believer (written to be read as an individual):

  • In Christ, I am blessed, chosen, adopted, accepted, redeemed and forgiven – Eph 1:3-7

  • I am precious in God’s sight – Isa 43:4

  • I am a child of God – 1 John 3:1-3

  • I am fearfully and wonderfully made and my soul knows God’s works – Ps 139:14

  • My life is hidden with Christ – Col 3:3

  • Through Jesus, I am victorious – 1 Cor 15:57

  • I am God’s masterpiece, created to do good works – Eph 2:10

  • I have a purpose – a future and hope – Jeremiah 29:11

There are so many more verses we could consult to remind us of who we are in Christ as one of God’s children “predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son…these He also called; whom He called, these he also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Rom 8:29-30).”

So, “Who do you think you are?” – Well as a child of God, hidden in Christ, you are pretty powerful and created for a purpose! Therefore, do not let this world get you down – remember who you are in Christ and go back to the Word to declare who you are and what you can accomplish to glorify God!
