What is Your Dream?
“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream. – Ps 126:1”
We are all familiar with day dreaming – where we are bored during a meeting or lecture and our minds drift off to thinking about vacation plans or some other fun activity we would rather be doing. Have you ever taken any time to day dream with God? Stop to consider what you would do if you had all the money and resources in the world, if you could do anything without boundaries or limits? What have you always wanted to do? Where would you live? What would your world look like? How do you think great inventors from our past were able to create new things and think outside of the box?
God’s promise to give us the desires of our hearts is the catalyst for dreaming with hope (Ps 37:3-5). When we connect with God, the desires of our hearts line up with God’s desires. We begin to see our purpose in God’s Kingdom (Jeremiah 29:11). God gives each of us gifts, talents and strengths to prepare us for this great purpose, but we must choose to step out in faith towards it.
So what is keeping you from taking that step to dream with God and begin working towards a better future? The first step in any plan is to write down the vision (Habakkuk 2:2). Then you can begin to work backwards and think about what steps are needed to work towards the vision – plan out smaller steps, goals to work towards. As you create goals, remember that they should be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant/reliable, and time-bound. It is not a true goal if you never know if you have met the goal! “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).”
