Recharging My Batteries – Summer Rest
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)”
So my last blog I shared my need for regaining my hope and told you the program (book) I would be using to rekindle this hope. I am taking it very slow, so this summer I have been focusing on the first week’s theme – “Recharge your batteries.” As I was reading through the material for the first week, it dawned on me that what
I needed was some rest. There is a reason God encouraged us to take a “Sabbath” rest once a week – taking time off and enjoying God’s creation – along with spending time with God. It occurred to me when we are super busy that we become over-stressed and have no time to stop and “smell the roses.” An easy way for people who serve others to burn out!~
I thought back to the days when I was a student in High School and even College – when we all took time off from school and enjoyed the summer vacation. I needed a break! When we are tired, we get cranky and lose all focus on our purpose and hope for the future. So even though I am not able to take the whole summer off, I can make it a little lighter and slow down. Do some things I enjoy – like reading fiction, going swimming and catching up on my sleep during the weekends. Since it is slower at work (I work at a college) I have been blessed to flex my hours and leisurely come in to the office…I can take some silent time to connect with God and enjoy His creations!~
I also realized part of my issue really was an energy level thing! I am over forty and discovered that I need more B complex vitamins. This has helped with the low energy level I was filling throughout the day…plus extra rest and a refocus on what is important has helped to bring hope. So, I think I may have conquered week 1 by the end of the summer and will work on week 2 next month!
May you enjoy a summer rest – taking some time off and focusing on things you enjoy doing! Find some time to spend with family and enjoy the warm outdoors – recharge your batteries!
