Focus on the Positive!
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Phil 4:8).”
The Lord has convicted me lately that I need to go on a negativity fast! What is that? Steve Backlund in his book, Igniting Faith in 40 Days, discusses this type of fasting that focuses on our attitudes. It is a way of thinking that focuses on the truths and promises of God instead of all the critical issues and problems in our lives. It is the concept of focusing on solutions for problems and not wallowing in self-pity. We need to replace negative words and thoughts with things that are “true, honorable, just, pure, honorable and praiseworthy (Phil 4:8)!”
In this election year with so many politicians slinging mud at one another and the frustration of all that is happening in the news, it is hard to think positively. I have noticed I am getting pessimistic about the future. I look at young high school and college kids who are so excited to enter the future – they are looking forward to all the promises of what is to come. Is it hope I seemed to have lost? Have I seen too many bad things happening in life to believe there is good?
When you begin to find yourself in the dark, it is time to turn on the light! So here goes…a negativity fast. It is time to focus on the promises of God and thank Him for all that is going well in my life. I have a husband who loves me, I have a job and we are financially secure. God is good to us!~ He has brought us through tough situations like losing our only daughter and my endometriosis last year that required a full hysterectomy and no more hope for children. Yet, I am alive and we are still married. God still has plans for us, we have just lost sight of them.
So join me in this negativity fast as we look to focus on the positive and lift up those heavy souls to see what amazing things God has in store for us. Let’s meditate on His amazing creation – such an artist! Let’s remember what it was like when we were young and free to dream! When hope still existed that there were solutions for the big problems in the world. Here is to cuddling with cute kitty cats and getting those warm fuzzies as we focus on the positives in our lives. Let’s enjoy the life we still have!
