Motivational Gifts - Romans 12
My doctoral dissertation involved the Romans 12 Motivational Gifts. I believe understanding the different motivational gifts can help us understand others we encounter in ministry and in the world. As we understand our own giftings, we realize the need for all of the giftings in the Body of Christ and we can begin to surround ourselves with people of different gifting types in order to better our ministries. There are specific motivational gifts that are great at certain tasks and roles in jobs and ministry that if we correctly match the right people with the right role, we can see the person blossom and the ministry or job be successful for everyone – it helps to match the right people in the right place according to giftings, talents and desires!
My husband and I are completely different giftings, but together we minister well. I am compassion/administrator/server and my husband is prophet/teacher/exhorter. My husband helps to balance me – is able to give me boundaries where I need them as my compassion gift can wear me out! I am constantly using my husband like an encyclopedia source – where is the verse in the Bible that says something like…his teacher gift jumps out. I help him understand the world bringing compassion where my husband sees the need for justice. However, we have our weak areas that I had to learn to deal with. AS a compassion person, I would run from an argument and my prophetic husband is very passionate and can be over the top in expressing himself. I had to learn that he was just expressing himself as a prophetic person and that he needed to take it down a notch, where I had to stand and learn to argue instead of running away to hide…as a result, I am more able to speak up for myself and to not get upset over every little thing – it does not revolve around me and my emotions! We understand each other better and it helps to remember that God brought us together for a reason! “Iron sharpens iron” and it may hurt, but we are being molded into what God has for us!
